Brussels is a lively, cosmopolitan city, rich in history and culture. It is also home to the Headquarters of the European Union and Nato, thus resulting in it often being referred to as the "Capitol of Europe". It has some truly beautiful centuries old architecture as well as more modern architecture. Its museums are some of the best in the whole of Europe. There are numerous tourist attractions to keep you busy during the day and it has a very vibrant nightlife.
Shopping
- As you will know Belgium is famous for its chocolate, and Brussels has many shops selling the local specialties, Yummy!
- This fantastic city has also become a bit of a shoppers paradise with its many shopping streets and galleries. Take a walk along Antoine Dansaert Straat to visit a variety of designer boutiques. The Avenue Louise is also great for top designer fashion brands such as Chanel, Armani, Hermes, Dior, Vuitton etc, as well as more affordable shops found around the large department store Innovation.
- If you are looking for bargains look around Rue Neuve in the lower city and look out for the words "solden" or "Soldes" which mean "Sale"!
- It's also worth bearing in mind that Brussels is great for antique shopping, with its many little Antique Shops and Flea Markets.
Eating Out
- "Mussels in Brussels"- You just can't go to Brussels and not try their mussels, they are the national dish of Belgium They are sold in most restaurants and cooked in a variety of ways. If you want to eat them as the Belgians do then use a discarded shell as a spoon to scoop out the rest of the mussels.
Brussels has over 2000 restaurants, so you really are spoiled for choice. There is a variety of cuisine available, so whether you are looking for traditional Belgian cuisine or international fare you will definitely find something to suit.
Waffles - make sure you do not leave without trying one of their waffles, whether it is from a street vendor or a posh gourmet restaurant.

- "Musee Royaux des Beaux - Here you will be able to view some of the finest collections of modern and ancient art.
- The Atomium - This is fab! It's a building shaped like a gigantic molecule. You can travel round its spheres in an escalator. This is great for the whole family as kids and adults alike will enjoy it.
- Grand Place - This is a definite must visit! It was built as a merchants market in the 13th century and is now the heart of Brussels Old Town with many pavement cafes and restaurants. It hosts numerous concerts and festivals, like the Ommegang Pageant held every July
- Cantillon Brewery - Brussels is famous for its beer, so you should make a visit to Cantillon Brewery which is the last brewery still brewing gueze beer using traditional methods.
